Red Robin Hood Hat

This hat is interesting enough that it’s not just another beanie but it’s also a quick knit that’s easy enough you can knit it in the dark. Yes, you can literally knit it in the dark. I speak from experience. I knit it sitting on the floor of Evelyn’s nursery in the dark when we were sleep training her. Okay, it wasn’t pitch black – I had a small, red plastic dinosaur nightlight, but that didn’t give me much more than the ability to see where my knitting was on the floor. I knit the hat in November and finally got around to blocking it and adding the buttons in the beginning of December. Dreaming of Hats

I’ve never been a huge hat person. With my very narrow¬†face, I have to be careful about what style I pick, and I’ve always had a lot of hair that isn’t necessarily easy to fit under a hat. On the flip side, with my pale skin I need to be careful to keep out of the sun, and I’d usually rather wear a hat than sunscreen (or both, since I am that pale). I tend to steal borrow a hat from my mom when the occasion warrants it (like our trip to Hawaii). However, with Spring sun in full force here and visions of pushing baby in her stroller all around our neighborhood in the Summer, I’ve been daydreaming of owning a selection of giant brimmed straw hats. Monster Wear Hat & Mittens Pattern!

Sometimes, when it’s chilly outside you need something that will warm you up and put a smile on your face and the faces of those around you. That’s exactly what Monster Wear Hat & Mittens are for! Spring may be starting to show its first signs of arrival, but there’s more winter yet to weather and what better way to weather it than with a faux fur hat with ears and mittens with claws. I first designed this hat and mittens as a costume to wear to a Yuri’s night celebration in 2008 (it was an all day science exhibition and rave to celebrate the first man in space, held at a NASA base.
