The best cat ever passed this week – Tall, Dark, and Handsome a.k.a. Mr. T. Also known as snugglepants and muffins, he was my constant and faithful companion for almost 10 years, since I rescued him and his sister Adelaide from a shelter when I was in college. Mr. T always wanted to cuddle and was constantly purring. It was impossible for him to be upset about anything.
He was preceded in death by his littermate and sister and companion of 12 years, Adelaide.
He is survived by his friend Tig, playmate of the last 2 years.
I know that everyone says that their pet is the best ever, but in this case it was true. I have had many people tell me “objectively, your cat is the best I’ve ever met.” My friend Mike was convinced that he must be a dog in disguise because he didn’t like cats but he loved Mr.T.
I had Mr. T for essentially my whole 20’s, so he’s been a rock for me through so many scary, challenging, exciting, and monumental times. He’s cuddled with me after horrible breakups, cuddled with me when I missed my family, cuddled with me as I celebrated college graduation, cuddled with me as I celebrated getting engaged, cuddled with me after my grandmother died, cuddled with me through all the bad times and all the good.
He’s been sick for a while and I knew the end was here so we pulled our mattress onto the floor to let him sleep with us for his last night. He spent his last day asleep in a cardboard box with my hand on him for the whole day. Any time I needed to get up, Adam sat down with him. So he knew he was loved and cared for and was able to go peacefully with both of us holding him.
