Let’s start this year off with a bang! My Presidio Purse pattern is live! Find it in my pattern store and keep an eye on the Presidio Purse page on my website for a summary of all things Presidio Purse as they are posted. There’s so much in store for this coming year – I’ll be finishing graduate school, moving to Seattle, and getting married (although I’m not yet sure in what order). This should be a great year for me and an exciting year for SeamstressErin Designs and I’m thrilled to start it with my first big sewing pattern launch.
What is the Presidio Purse? My pattern testers said:
“This is the perfect purse for a woman on the go! It will stylishly hold everything you need for a day out, while the pockets inside keep important items handy. The handle length is perfect for throwing over your shoulder and keeping your hands free.”
“A hobo style shoulder bag with lots of customization options.”
“The Presidio Purse is the perfect spacious bag you need. Whether you have kids and need to carry along lots of things or you love taking short trips on the weekend, this bag allows for plenty of stuff without looking like a weekender. It can also be used as a school bag or to carry your gym gear.”
“A functional bag perfect to fit everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink.”
“A large zippered tote bag with shoulder strap featuring an interior zippered pocket as well as a divided pocket for holding a cell phone and pens.”
“The perfect big bag to suit your hoarding tendencies.”
The pattern is written for a confident beginner/intermediate sewist, but I’ll be hosting a step-by-step sewalong in the weeks to come to make this bag accessible for the beginning sewist. The sewalong will also include some extra details – like how to add piping and how to turn the insets into extra pockets – for the more advanced sewist. The pattern itself features 3 different inset options – gathered or plain or leave them off – and you can sew them from the same fabric or spice it up with a contrast fabric. There are also 2 different handle options – with hardware (a 2″ rectangular ring) or plain. [Please note that my pattern testers only had one inset option and it was somewhere in between the two available with the final pattern so test purses differ slightly from the finished pattern.]
I could not have done this without the help of a fabulous group of pattern testers. Yay! What stunning variations your testers made! Mine seems so boring in comparison! This pregnancy has just sucked away all of my creativity these last few months! I do love it though, and my husband compliments it every time he sees it. I was planning on posting mine this week, but I now want to go back and take better photos after seeing how professional these look! Bravo on a great pattern that inspired such great bags!
PS I love the final art sketch of the purse!

Thanks!! Sometimes it’s nice to have a simple and functional bag – think of it that way instead of boring!
great bag! i’ve been wanting to sew a bag for myself, and this one looks perfect!
On the to-do list! Such an awesome bag with an even cooler pattern. Love the style of the pattern and graphics. Best, Kate

Yay! Glad to have you join in!
Thank you for including me as a pattern tester. My first purse was a dream purse to use on holidays recently and it got lots of good comments.
I’ll put up the second urban version using black and white spot fabric and a bit of hardware.
I’m happy with both purses Erin.
