Adam and I spent our Thanksgiving this year in Los Barriles, South Baja, Mexico. We hosted Thanksgiving dinner for our families last year. This year, we decided that our priorities for the holiday were low stress and time together. So we escaped to Mexico!
Los Barriles is a beach town between Los Cabos and La Paz famous for kiteboarding.
We thought we would go somewhere in Baja because it’s not too far away but still warm and it would be someplace new for us to explore. Adam found a house he loved, available for the week, on Airbnb. It happened to be in Los Barriles so that’s where we headed. Mostly, we spent the week relaxing around the house.
One day we borrowed an ATV and drove a couple miles up the arroyo…
…to a waterfall. We hiked up behind the waterfall with our lunch and sat in the shade and talked. (Check out my romper in weather for which it’s actually appropriate!)
We took a day trip to Todos Los Santos, an artsy town on the other side of the peninsula. We had fun poking around the art galleries and the souvenir shops.
We did a lot of simple cooking on our own, but made sure to eat out for one meal every day and had scrumptious shrimp tacos, roast chicken, fried fish, and carne asada tacos, tortas, and baked potatoes.
On this holiday, I do want to take a moment to give thanks for the blessings in my life. I am thankful for my health and the health of my family members and loved ones. I am thankful for their love and support. I am thankful for our good fortune that allows us to travel to such a beautiful place. And I am thankful for my wonderful boyfriend and partner for his love, support, and the fact that he took me to Mexico for Thanksgiving!
